Hello Everyone,
It is with great sadness that I post this comment on the “hate crime” tragedy that occurred in Charleston, SC on the evening of Wednesday, June 17, 2015.

First let me say that The Black History Channel was created to be a beacon of POSITIVE light to the community. In that respect, I never planned to post ANY adverse news of any type on the site; only good news, encouraging news. News that makes you cheer.

But I realize today by that by not acknowledging the tragic occurrence of June 17, 2015–by remaining silent as if it never happened, I would be no different than the people who stand along the sidelines and claim not to be convinced that it had anything to do with racism when everyone knows that it did. Absolutely, it did.

So I’m speaking up.

I won’t say much because, again, I want to accentuate the positive. But I will say that my heart goes out to the victims of the massacre, and my prayers are going up for the families. May God grant you comfort and peace in your time of sorrow.

With a heavy heart,
Rita Lorraine
