This young lady is really making waves. 11-year old activist and inspiration Marley Dias is rallying for more books featuring black girls as the “sheroes.” With this goal in mind, she launched a campaign called #1000BlackGirlBooks that has taken off like a young eagle celebrating its wings.
According to BlackNews.com “Marley’s campaign has not only inspired others, but has grown into a Social Movement. In three short weeks, Marley has collected over 1,000 books and gained international media attention.” This attention includes The Ellen DeGeneres Show, New York Magazine, Elle, Fox29, Teen Vogue, Huffington Post, and Entertainment Weekly.
Now Marley will be honored with the International Pretty Brown Girl Day celebration of its “Dream Big Award.” This will happen at Spelman College on February 27, 2016.
