Lord, this music brings back memories! Steamy summer evenings in what former President Bush calls "a kinder, gentler nation," where it was safe to leave your doors unlocked or stroll up and down the street to your best friend's house...as long as you got home before the streetlights came on. If those streetlights caught you, man, you were in a whole lotta trouble! Might as well go out to the bush, pick your own switch, and take it straight to your Mama, because you just knew you were getting a beating.

It's a Shame was sung by the passionate and beloved Spinners and became their biggest single on the Motown Records label. It was released in 1970 when I was still a girl and full of wonder about the kind of woman that could actually make a man wail like the man in the song.

Spinners

It was written by none other than Stevie Wonder (and co-writer Lee Garrett) after a bad breakup with his girlfriend at the time, and went on to reach No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 3 on the R&B singles chart.

This particular version is new and absolutely fantastic. It was remixed by a Youtube user by the name of Mosogotam. He didn't write the music or the lyrics, but I'm mentioning him here because he knocked it out of the park with this extended version.

So here for your enjoyment is It's a Shame. Enjoy!

IT'S A SHAME!

It's a shame, the way you mess around with your man
It's a shame the way you hurt me
It's a shame, the way you mess around with your man
I'm sitting all alone, by the telephone
Waiting for your call, when you don't call at all

It's a shame (shame) the way you mess around with your man
It's a shame (shame) the way you play with my emotions
It's a shame (shame) the way you mess around with your man
You're like a child at play, on a sunny day
But you play with love, and then you throw it away

Why do you use me, try to confuse me
How can you stand, to be so cruel
Why don't you free me, from this prison
Where I serve my time as your fool

It's a shame (shame) the way you mess around with your man
It's a shame (shame) the way you hurt me
It's a shame (shame) the way you mess around with your man
I try to stay with you, show you love so true
But you won't appreciate, the love we try to make

Oh, it's got to be a shame

Why do you use me, try to confuse me
How can you stand, to be so cruel
Why don't you free me, from this prison
Where I serve my time as your fool

Got to be a shame (shame) the way you mess around with your man
Ohhh, it's a shame (shame) the way you hurt me
It's a shame (shame) the way you mess around with your man
You've got my heart in chains, and I must complain
I just can't be content, oh look at (muttering)

Got to, got to, be a shame
